Have you ever heard about the Lord Mayor's Show? This annual event that takes place in the City of London is the oldest and longest civic procession in the world. It celebrates the new Lord Mayor taking on the role.
The show dates back to the early 13th century when King John was persuaded to let the citizens of London elect their own Mayor on one condition; each year the new Mayor must travel from the City to Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown.
The Mayors of London have been taking this journey for over 800 years.This noisy, colourful and joyful procession has become so popular that it is known today as the Lord Mayor’s Show.
